Prashanth MARPU

Group 42 • Tech Lead of Space Program

Dr. Prashanth Marpu is the Tech Lead of Space Program at Group 42, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. He was an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and Manager of YahSat Space Lab at Khalifa University of Science and Technology, Abu Dhabi, UAE. His specialization is in small satellites, image processing, machine learning, remote sensing and IoT. Prior to joining Khalifa University, Dr. Marpu was a researcher at the University of Iceland, Reykjavik, Iceland and before that he was a Marie Curie Fellow at the University of Pavia, Italy working on developing advanced methods for remote sensing data analysis. Dr. Marpu holds a PhD in Remote Sensing from TU Freiberg, Germany, and MSc in Wireless Engineering from the Technical University of Denmark. He is involved in designing and building small satellites as a project manager of four satellite programs MYSat-1, MYSat-2, MeznSat and Light-1 and has actively contributed to the development of various approaches for processing remote sensing data for a wide range of applications. Dr. Marpu has been a Council member of the International Society of Digital Earth since 2020. He has contributed to more than 60 journal papers and more than 100 conference papers and has been actively involved in the remote sensing educational activities in the Middle East region.
