Jarin CHU

Space Sensory Lab • Co-Founder

Jarin Chu is co-founder of Space Sensory Lab, exploring the role of sensory experience in making spaceflight more human. Her research spans the overlooked sensory and embodied realities of living in space, such as managing space motion sickness, menstruation, the use of MAGs, and the potential for food and scents of Earth to support physical & mental health, enable optimal performance, provide comfort, and foster connection during long-duration missions. An anthropologist and historian by training, Jarin studies how food and sensory traditions create culture, identity, and belonging, and what happens to those relationships when humans leave Earth. She is particularly interested in food as both sustenance and a carrier of memory, place, novelty, and home. Jarin also serves as a fractional CMO and advisor to New Space startups and scaleups, and has supported space food companies in their commercialization. Her broader work connects space agencies, industry, investment, and executive leadership across the United States, Europe, and Asia. Her work asks a simple question: What will it take to make deep-space living feel not just survivable, but human?
