Yeshurun Alemayehu ADDE

Dr. Yeshurun Alemayehu Adde (Kibret) is a prominent Ethiopian engineer, academic, and space science leader. Since October 2023, he has served as the State Minister for ICT & Digital Economy at the Ethiopian Ministry of Innovation and Technology, where he oversees national innovation initiatives, including the Ethiopian Space Science & Geospatial Institute (ESSGI).

Dr. Yeshurun has played a pivotal role in Ethiopia’s space program since 2017, holding senior leadership positions at ESSGI such as Deputy Director General, Project Manager of the Satellite Manufacturing & AIT Center, and Director of Aerospace Engineering R&D. He spearheaded the design and launch of Ethiopia’s first and second remote sensing satellites—ETRSS-1 and ET-SMART-RSS—and successfully secured USD 2 million in project funding from Chinese partners.

He holds two PhDs: one in Business Administration (Servant Leadership) from New Life College/Gelila Seminary (USA, 2019) and another in Physics (Small Satellite Development) from Selinus University (Italy, 2024). He is currently pursuing a third PhD in Mechanical Design Engineering at Addis Ababa University, focusing on space robotics.

His academic background also includes an MSc in Mechanical Design Engineering, a Master’s in Digital Marketing and Business, a Postgraduate Diploma in Space Technology, a Postgraduate Diploma in Marine Engineering, and a B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering. Since 2009, he has lectured at multiple Ethiopian universities and was the founding dean of the College of Engineering and Technology at Mizan-Tepi University.

As founder and chairman of the African Aeronautics & Astronautics Center, Dr. Yeshurun champions aerospace capacity building in Africa. His research covers space robotics, satellite design, propulsion, and autonomous systems. He has published widely in international journals and conferences.
