Minduli Wijayatunga is an Adjunct Assistant Professor and an Incoming Assistant Professor for 2026 in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the Grainger College of Engineering, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She is also an incoming research associate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, working on rendezvous and proximity operations testing frameworks. Currently she works at the Australian Centre for Robotics as a research associate in robotic spacecraft and mission autonomy for in-orbit servicing missions. She received her PhD in 2025 at the University of Auckland, where she studied Trajectory Design and Guidance for missions with proximity operations. She received her bachelors degrees in Engineering and Science from the University of Sydney in 2020. Her research interests include in orbit servicing, active debris removal, rendezvous and proximity operations, reinforcement learning, multi-objective trajectory optimization, model predictive control, and convex/indirect optimization methods.
