Andrea Patassa, born in 1991 in Italy, has cultivated a distinguished career in aerospace and military aviation. He began his academic journey at the University of Naples Federico II, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Science in 2013. His passion for aviation led him to further his education, obtaining a master’s degree in 2018. During his studies, Andrea gained international experience through a four-month exchange program at the French Air Force Academy in Salon-de-Provence in 2014.

Andrea's military career took off after participating in the Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training Program at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas, USA, where he earned his military pilot’s license from the Italian Air Force in 2017. His commitment and skills in aviation saw him rise to the rank of Air Force Captain, serving as a fighter pilot. He also expanded his expertise by participating in various survival and rescue courses with the Italian Air Force, including specialized training in underwater escape and survival in extreme environments.

In 2021, Andrea was selected by the Italian Air Force to become an experimental test pilot. He enrolled at the prestigious USAF Test Pilot School at Edwards Air Force Base in California, where he honed his skills further, logging over 1000 flying hours in 30 different aircraft types. His selection to the ESA Astronaut Reserve in November 2022 marked a significant milestone in his career, recognizing his capabilities and dedication to aerospace.
