Matt Miller joined the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) in September 2024 as a detailee from the U.S. Department of State. Matt’s background for this assignment includes a year of study at the U.S. National Defense University, where he did a four-month examination of the commercial space sector and its relationship to national security.

Matt joined the Department of State in 2001. He previously served in a variety of roles at the U.S. Embassies in Dakar, Senegal; Bratislava, Slovakia; Yaoundé, Cameroon; Paris, France; and Port-au-Prince, Haiti. His six Washington assignments include working as Special Assistant to the Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy and two crisis management tours in the Secretary of State’s Operations Center.

Matt speaks French, Slovak, Portuguese, and Haitian Kreyol and calls Falls Church, Virginia home. He is in Vienna with his wife, two teenage children, dog, and surly Senegalese street cat.
