Detlef MULLER-WIESNERS

Airbus Defence and Space SAResponsible for the Airbus Group E-Aircraft Program Directorate

Dr.-Ing. Detlef Müller-Wiesner (59) has been responsible for the Airbus Group E-Aircraft Program Directorate and external research and technology relations since February 2014.

From 2012 to 2014 he was in charge for areas of external relations research and technology, business development and interdisciplinary initiatives within the EADS Corporate Technical Office (CTO).

From 2006 to April 2012 he held the positions of EADS Chief Operating Officer Innovation and EADS Deputy Chief Technical Officer. In this capacity he was Head of EADS Global Innovation Networks and Chairman of the EADS Research & Technology Council (R&T Council).

Since 1986, when he began his professional career at Erno Raumfahrttechnik, he has worked for Airbus Group or for companies that later became part of Airbus Group. In the space technology field, he held positions of responsibility in development, production, service and programme departments and, when EADS was founded in 2000, he was tasked with heading, integrating and developing EADS’ corporate research activities (now known as Airbus Group Innovations).

Dr. Müller-Wiesner studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Clausthal and received a PhD (Dr.-Ing.) for his thesis on structural durability.

Dr. Müller-Wiesner is a reserve officer of the German Air Force, speaker of the senate of the German Society for Aeronautics and Astronautics (DGLR), former President of the DGLR, former President of the International Council on Aeronautical Sciences (ICAS), he was member of the senate of the Helmholtz Association, he is Chairman of the Board of Bauhaus Luftfahrt e.V. and member of the Supervisory Board of Airbus Defence and Space GmbH. He also holds the title Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite (France).

He is married with three children and has lived with his family in Paris since 2001.

In private life, he is an avid sailor and keen musician.
